Outside the Box Workshop: Build your own light box!
Explore photo-based installation art with Linka Odom. Participants will learn how to build a simple, beautiful light box using affordable and easy-to-find materials. Odom will work closely with participants from image selection to final production to ensure everyone leaves with a beautiful light box showcasing his or her own work.
Each participant leaves with a finished light box of their own making!
2:30: Explore “Maximize Window” and watch a presentation on photography utilizing multi-media materials including Odom’s own work
3:15: Odom will discuss light box construction from high- to low-end and share her experience with materials, process, and image selection
3:30: Hands-on, step-by-step light box production led by Odom resulting in a finished product for participants to take home.
Workshop fee is $75 for members / $85 for the general public. Additional instructions and information will be provided upon registration.
There will be a material fee of approximately $30 due at the workshop. Materials to be provided include bamboo paneling for box construction, LED strips for lighting the box, LED converter/wall plug (single units), PlexiGlass sheet.
Optional materials available for purchase on site: LED dimmer with remote control, electrical wire (extension cables), rubber feet for box, cable for hanging box.
ABOUT LINKA ODOM
Linka Odom is a photographer and installation artist based in New Orleans. Her work has won awards from Santa Fe Photo Workshops, APA/LA, WIPI, and Smithsonian Magazine. Her photographic lightboxes and photography won a Getty Images Creative Grant in 2012. She earned a BFA in Photography from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and a MA in Photojournalism and Doc Photography from the University of the Arts London College of Communication. Her installations have been enjoyed in festivals all over the world.
