Dan Kaufman was born in Bronxville, NY in 1952 the son of an artist and began his love affair with photography at an early age: working a paper route so he could buy a German 35mm rangefinder…Dan’s first exposure to a darkroom was in a converted a guest bath…and growing up just 5 miles from Disneyland—Walt taught him the magic of the story. By the late ‘90’s and into the early noughts his work became more minimalistic and he was known for a time as Daniel Scissorhands due to his propensity to cut out what he didn’t want. This trait has become characteristic of his work. Dan’s photography become painterly—and at times, sculptural.
Dan’s photography is in collection at LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art), and the Chinese-American Museum (Los Angeles). He is represented by The Haen Gallery in Asheville and Brevard, NC. He lives and works in Savannah, GA.
