RECOLLECTIONS RECEPTION

RECOLLECTIONS: A Community Photography Project
Kingsley House Opening Reception
Friday, June 30
5:30-7:30 PM, Kingsley House
901 Richard Street, New Orleans

Please join us for a very special reception celebrating opening of the RECOLLECTIONS: A Community Photography Project permanent exhibit at Kingsley House and the partner exhibit at the New Orleans Photo Alliance Gallery.

The project uses the medium of photography to trigger and document individual memories and their associated emotions. NOPA photographers (Owen Murphy, Rick Olivier, and Mary Lou Uttermohlen) worked with participants in Kingsley House’s Adult Services program to shoot images with b&w disposable cameras. The images created evoked an emotional response to a specific memory from the participant’s past. 30 images from this project will be included in a permanent exhibition in Kingsley House’s Patrick F. Taylor Campus at 901 Richard Street in New Orleans.

NOPA’s RECOLLECTIONS exhibition is a response to the same theme and asked photographic artists to submit images that evoked an emotional response to a specific memory. We were honored to have Russell Lord, Freeman Family Curator of Photographs, Prints and Drawings at the New Orleans Museum of Art, serve as curator of the exhibition currently on view in the NOPA Gallery, 1111 St. Mary Street.

Please join us at Kingsley House tomorrow at 5:30-7:30 to celebrate this community photography project and partnership. Cocktails and Hors d’oeuvres will be served and the Sam Dingle Trio will be providing live entertainment. Immediately following the Kingsley House reception, join us for a viewing of the RECOLLECTIONS exhibition in the NOPA Gallery from 7:30 to 8:30. The NOPA Gallery is just a few short block from Kingsley House.

This project has been made possible with a generous grant from the St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church Benevolence Fund.
