Chrystal Nause

Chrystal Lea Nause is a fine art photographer specializing in traditional darkroom processes. She earned her Bachelor of Arts (photography, 2005) and Master of Arts (physical anthropology, 2010) from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Her primary interests are travel photography, narrative tableau, and classic portraiture. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally.

'to have loved and lost' is an ongoing project about love, loss, and grief.  These deeply personal narratives are based on my experience with the deaths of those who were closest to me.  I attempt to find solace through the excavation of my own soul and mind. The images visually represent a personal journey, mired through depression and anxiety, all in a search to understand the permanence of loss through death.

Chrystal fell in love with the darkroom at the age of 16, as an exchange student in Tasmania, Australia. She is passionate about traditional darkroom processes and is an Administrative Member of the New Orleans Community Printshop and Darkroom. This Midwest native now calls New Orleans her home.
