“These images were done early in my career using a Diana camera. I focused my work on my immediate surroundings, my Mother, and my friends.”
Mary Kucera was born and raised in New Orleans. In 1984 she received a Masters degree in Fine Arts from the University of New Orleans where she was first exposed to photography as an art form. Her earliest photos were images drawn from her immediate surroundings and frequently employed the use of a Diana (toy) camera.
Upon completion of her degree, she became a photography instructor at Delgado Community College and, later, at Metropolitan College. Her current work involves the documentation of Holt Cemetery. Kucera has also pursued the medium of drawing and those images can be seen on her website: marykucera.com.
