2nd Tuesdays at NOPA: Portfolio Prep with Jennifer Shaw and Zack Smith

Portfolio Prep with Jennifer Shaw & Zack Smith
Tuesday, August 8
6-8:00 PM in the NOPA Gallery

The New Orleans Photo Alliance welcomes photographers to a 2nd Tuesdays at NOPA event designed to help you prepare your portfolios for public presentation. Zack Smith, NOPA Grant Program Chair, and Jennifer Shaw, PhotoNOLA Artistic Director, will engage photographers in a lively discussion (based on years of experience!) on the practical steps necessary to best showcase your work to the public.

Following the presentation, Zack and Jennifer will provide individual consultations to 12 photographers on a first-come, first served basis. Group participants are invited to stay to observe the individual consultations.

Doors will open at 5:45 PM and the presentation will start promptly at 6:00 PM. Individual consultations will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis so plan to arrive promptly at 5:45 PM to get a number if you wish to participate.

Jennifer Shaw

Jennifer Shaw is the artistic director of the annual PhotoNOLA Festival and a fine art photographer. Jen’s work is based on both a world observed and a world constructed, often focusing on the fleeting and personal within the sphere of her immediate surroundings.

Her photographs have been featured in Oxford American, Shots, Black + White Photography (UK), NPR, Lenscratch, and PDN, and are included in two recent monographs: Hurricane Story (Chin Music Press, 2011), and Nature/Nurture (North Light Press, 2012). Shaw studied photography at Rhode Island  School of Design, teaches film photography at Louise S. McGehee School.

Zack Smith

Zack Smith is a content creator and visual storyteller that has been documenting the social, musical and cultural landscapes of New Orleans and Louisiana for the past 20 years.

Zack‘s ability to communicate with his commercial photographic clients on a personal level allows him to create intimate, powerful, and engaging photography for his clients. Zack served as Exhibition Coordinator and Curator at the CANARY Gallery on Julia St. in New Orleans from 2007-2010, and his work is shown and collected around the United States. He currently serves as Grants Program Chair for the New Orleans Photo Alliance.
