New Orleans Photo Alliance Resource Center will be hosting a four week workshop on black and white film photography and darkroom printing. This workshop will be led by Dr. Leslie Parr, professor of photography at Loyola University. Limited to 8 participants.
This workshop is designed to introduce — or reacquaint– participants to film photography and the darkroom process. Participants will explore the art of picturing the world in black and white, while learning camera controls, film developing and printing. In addition to hands-on demonstrations, the class will include photo assignments, critiques of participants’ work and discussions of images by historical and contemporary photographers.
Outside of workshop sessions, participants can reserve time in the NOPA darkroom to develop film and produce prints selected from their weekly photo shoots.
No previous photography experience is required!
Required materials:
- Proof of full vaccination and masking
- 35 mm film camera
- Tri-X 35 mm black and white film, 24 exposure
- 1 pack 5″x7″ RC Paper (Available for purchase from Photo Alliance)
- 1 pack 8″x10″ RC Paper (Available for purchase from Photo Alliance)

About the Instructor:
Dr. Leslie Parr is the A. Louis Read Distinguished Professor Emerita at Loyola University New Orleans, where she taught photography and history of photography courses for more than 30 years. Her photographs have been exhibited throughout the United States and published in numerous magazines, newspapers and books. She earned a Master’s of Fine Arts degree from Tulane University and a Ph.D. in United States history, also from Tulane
