As Southern Louisiana faces the destruction left by the recent floods, many of our members have reached out to us asking how to use photography to help. You understand the power of an image and have asked us to find a way to make a difference in this recovery through photography.
Second Harvest Foodbank is distributing large truckloads of food, water and supplies to the entire impacted area, from Hammond to Denham Springs, Baton Rouge and areas around Lafayette. They have very limited staff to capture the arrival of trucks at partner agencies as well as images (and video if possible) of people impacted by the storm who are helped by the aid they send. The images and video will be used to document the impact of the damage, the impact of the aid, and allow Second Harvest to reach local and national audiences to recruit volunteers and donations to our region.
For the next week or so, many of the photo opportunities are only with hours’ notice so there will be situations where you would be asked to shoot something on the same day. They also need help getting quality shots inside the warehouse and Community Kitchen (industrial kitchen) in the next couple of days at the facility in the Elmwood/Harahan area. This Saturday, there is another opportunity to shoot some of the top restaurants & their chefs in the Community Kitchen as they prepare thousands of meals to send to impacted areas.
If you can help, email Amy Dailey Williams at adwilliams@neworleansphotoalliance.org and she will get you all the details. Photographers will be credited but not paid for their images and video.
Thank you!
