A Creative View Camera Workshop

The New Orleans Photo Alliance presents Steve Simmons, publisher of View Camera Magazine and author of Using the View Camera, in a workshop designed to explore the unique capabilities of this classic camera in making contemporary images. Mr. Simmons, a Master of the view camera, will thoroughly demonstrate and explain how to set up and use the controls of a view camera and provide practical help in making Portraits and photographing Architecture with your new-found skill. If you have never experienced working with a view camera or if you want to hone your skills with a master, this workshop is for you.

Workshop Description:

Saturday April 3
1 – 4pm: Mr. Simmons will give an introduction and demonstration of the view camera where you will learn about swings and tilts and how they control perspective and focus. You will learn to compose upside down and backwards on the ground glass and you will get hands-on knowledge of every aspect of using a view camera from mounting lenses, using film holders and more.

Sunday April 4
9 – 12pm: Photographic Portraiture with the view camera
12 – 1pm: Lunch break
1 – 5pm: Photographing Architecture with the view camera
