  • by

“The Sugar Mill Sessions,” an ongoing photographic project of NOPA member David Armentor that focuses on Iberia Parish, La.’s sugar-producing community, is featured in the Summer 2013 issue of Louisiana Cultural Vistas, a publication of the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.

The feature can be viewed online via the Nxtbook Media service

Meanwhile, an exhibit of work from Armentor’s project will open on Wednesday, July 3 at the Cole Pratt Gallery, located at 3800 Magazine Street in New Orleans. The show will run through August 10.

An opening reception for the exhibit is set for Saturday, July 20, from 3 to 5 p.m.

The gallery describes “The Sugar Mill Sessions” as giving a contemporary view of the local sugar-producing industry in Iberia Parish. For the project, Armentor documents work at three mills during harvest seasons, and follows a family of sugar cane growers whose roots in the sugar community run seven generations deep.
