Thomas Werner, director of photography at New York’s Parsons The New School of Design, as well as a gallery owner and photographer, will present a seminar on photo business marketing, “The Artist as a Producer,” in Metairie on Wednesday, Nov. 14.
The seminar, hosted by the New Orleans/Gulf South chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP-NO), is billed a continuation–a second part, really–of the “Business of Fine Art Photography” seminar that Werner presented in New Orleans this past September. However, attendees need not have experienced the earlier seminar to understand, or benefit from, next week’s event.
“The Artist as a Producer” is to be held Nov. 14 from 6 to 9:15 p.m. at Professional Color Service, located at 604 Papworth Avenue in Metairie.
Werner is the owner of Manhattan’s Thomas Werner Gallery. In addition to his work at Parsons and his gallery, he works as a commercial and fine art photographer with clients including Bank of America, the Courvoisier cognac brand and 20th Century Fox.
At this seminar, Werner will discuss the creation, financing and management of photo projects, with topics ranging from project proposal writing to grant-seeking, financing via crowd-funding websites, promotional and public relations efforts and project management techniques.
Admission for the seminar is $20 for ASMP members and free to the organization’s leaders and student members. Otherwise, admission is $30 for non-members and $15 for non-member students.
You may register at the ASMP website, as well as by calling (215) 451-2767 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. CDST.
