Local authors Gary Michael Smith and Dean M. Shapiro will be reading and signing their latest books at Blue Cypress Books, 8126 Oak Street, New Orleans on Saturday, May 15, from 10:30 a.m. until noon.
Mr. Smith, a New Orleans-based photojournalist, author, and magazine editor, will be promoting his latest book, THROUGH THE LENS—A FIELD GUIDE TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY (2010). This handy, 242-page trade paperback is aimed at professional as well as amateur photographers and contains abundant helpful tips for capturing the best images, creating an efficient workflow, and getting photography jobs to help make the move from hobbyist to professional.
Mr. Shapiro’s books, HISTORIC PHOTOS OF STEAMBOATS ON THE MISSISSIPPI (2009) and HISTORIC PHOTOS OF LOUISIANA (2010) are coffee table volumes in a series of “Historic Photos” books published by Turner Publishing Company of Nashville, Tennessee — each consisting of 200 black and white photographs dating from the 1860s to the 1970s.
This duel book signing is targeted to both those who appreciate fine, historic photography as well as those wanting to create their own photographic masterpieces.
