    Sunday, Dec 2 4:30pm

“Ellis L. Marsalis, III, will deliver a photo-reading of his acclaimed
book, “Tha Bloc: words, photographs and baltimore city in black, white
and gray.” Featuring prose in sync with black and white photography,
the book is a photo narrative in the tradition of W. Eugene Smith and
Larry Clark. In his photo-reading, Marsalis discusses many of the
mythologies of poverty, race, and educational access carried by those
on the bloc, and off the bloc. Marsalis received a B.F.A. in
photography from the Tisch School for the Arts at New York University.
His work has been seen in galleries nationwide, including the Stella
Jones Gallery. In 2007 he was commissioned by the Smithsonian
Institution to create a multimedia exhibit of “Tha Bloc.” The exhibit
premiered at the Smithsonian Anacostia Museum in June.
