Notice: The deadline for entry has been extended to Friday, Nov. 15.

New Orleans’ International House hotel, in collaboration with PhotoNOLA, is inviting photographers, as well as mixed-media artists whose work incorporates photography, to submit images for “MAGDALENA,” an exhibit of work that imagines or reimagine the biblical figure Mary Magdalene.

The juried exhibit will run at the hotel from December 6, 2013 through January 5, 2014, in connection with the annual PhotoNOLA festival.

The deadline for entry is Sunday, Nov. 10. All photographic processes are welcome, whether from professionals or amateurs. Only 3-D work is not eligible, and 2-D work must be no larger than 42×42 inches and no smaller than 20×30 inches. The entry fee is $20 for up to three images. Additional images may be submitted for $10 each.

For entry and more in-depth submission details, please see the exhibit website.

A dozen artists will be invited to participate in “Magdalena.” The hotel has contributed $4,500 toward purchase awards for the exhibit. First, second and third prize winners will be selected. Purchased art will be placed don permanent exhibit in the International House’s new “magdalena gallery” space.

The hotel will host a reception and awards ceremony for the exhibit on Friday, Dec. 13, from 8-11 p.m.

The full complement of submissions will be projected in the hotel’s lobby via continuous digital loop during the reception and shall be displayed in the online-gallery of our MAGDALENA site.  Serving as jurors will be Joshua Mann Pailet, NOPA member and owner of A Gallery for Fine Photography in the French Quarter, California photographer and visual artist Michelle Magdalena Maddox and Rita Benson LeBlanc, owner and vice chairman of the board of the New Orleans Saints football organization, as well as an art collector.

The International House boutique hotel is located at 221 Camp Street in the Crescent City’s Central Business District.
