Call for entry: All Music Down Here

New Orleans Photo Alliance, in collaboration with The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Presented by Shell, announces the call for entry to All Music Down Here, juried by Timothy Duffy.

In celebration of live music returning to the city, this exhibition honors the diverse, world-class music scene in New Orleans as it exists today.

Selected work will be exhibited at the New Orleans Photo Alliance Gallery, 7800 Oak Street, April 23-June 26, 2022. An opening reception for the exhibition will be held Saturday, May 7, 6-8 pm.

Additionally, selected artists will have the honor of their work being reproduced and displayed as part of an installation at the Cultural Exchange Pavilion during The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Festival Presented by Shell, April 29-May 8, 2022!  

Call for Entry Timeline
  • Entry form opens: Friday, February 18
  • Deadline to enter: Sunday, March 20
  • Notification: by Friday, March 25
  • Deadline to send digital files for installation (selected entries only): Tuesday, March 29
  • Deadline to deliver physical work (selected entries only): Wednesday, April 20

Entry Fee: $15 per 3 works submitted

Guidelines
Eligibility:
  • This is a national call; entrants do not need to be based in New Orleans. 
  • Entrants are encouraged to submit recent work (taken in the past 6 years).
  • Work submitted should not have been previously widely published or recognizable to the public.
Cultural Exchange Pavilion Installation:

To meet printing requirements for the Cultural Exchange Pavilion installation, each photographic work submitted must be in a square format. If the photographic work is not in square format, each entrant must submit:

  • The original work
  • how you would like the work cropped for the installation

If selected, work must be made available in a file that can be printed at 41″ x 41” without losing quality. Artists will be credited for their work at the Cultural Exchange Pavilion installation.

Subject Matter:

Submitted photographs should document Greater New Orleans-area musicians representing a variety of genres, including but not limited to hip-hop, bounce, punk, pop, street, classical, folk, zydeco, and electric.

Work submitted must have been taken in Greater New Orleans-area. Examples of photographed environments include but are not limited to bars & clubs, porches,  balconies, homes, and theaters.

Photographers are strongly encourage to obtain a signed release agreement from the musical acts featured in their work, as well as give notice of intention to enter the work for this call,  before submitting. The names or titles of musical acts will be featured in the Cultural Exchange Pavilion installation.

About The Juror

Timothy Duffy is a renowned photographer and founder of the Music Maker Relief Foundation. Timothy has been recording and photographing traditional artists in the South since the age of 16, when he became interested in ethnomusicology. After earning a BA from Friends World College and MA from the Curriculum in Folklore at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Timothy and his wife Denise founded Music Maker Relief Foundation in 1994 to assist traditional musicians in need.
