Seeking photography of the spray-painted FEMA X-Codes in post-Katrina New Orleans for The X-Code Exhibition Project.
Deadline for submission: March 15, 2010
Davis-Moye & Associates announces a call for artists to participate in a photography exhibition documenting the X-codes that marked residences and other buildings as having been searched in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina (August 2005). There are several potential exhibition opportunities of the photographs and they are outlined on the site. The codes are a valuable record, expressed in an unforgettable graphic, and displayed on the distinctive architecture of New Orleans, with their usage standardized and fine-tuned as the searches progressed. They are even more moving and powerful when considering their message and when comprehending the stunning volume of their repetition.
The first display venue for the collected images will be in an online gallery on Southern Spaces.
