THURSDAY APRIL 2, 2014
7pm The New Orleans Athletic Club
222 N Rampart St
Mike Walters, General Manager of The New Orleans Athletic Club today announced the agenda for the club’s Spring Lecture Series and Podcasts. Lectures begin at 7 PM; they are free and open to the public.
The first lecture/interview features Thom Bennnett, President, New Orleans Photo Alliance, interviewed by Elizabeth Perrin. The Alliance encourages the understanding and appreciation of photography through exhibitions, opportunities and educational programs. It strives to foster economic and artistic growth while preserving the photographic culture of New Orleans.
Morgan Molthrop, local author, Chairman of the Lecture Series and Creative Director of Custom New Orleans, will produce, direct and conduct many of the interviews.“We’re excited to bring elements of fashion and photography, specialties of native New Orleanian, Elizabeth Perrin, into the program this spring,” said Molthrop.
“Also this spring, we are going to experiment by taking one podcast ‘off campus’ to look at sculpture placed in the city after Katrina.” The ‘field trip’ will be led by Michael Manjarris, a leading force behind ‘Sculpture for New Orleans’ and Robert Tannen, artist, architect and urban planner.
Custom New Orleans underwrites the NOAC Lecture Series Podcasts. Custom is the city’s leader in cultural tourism experiences. Carling Dinkler III, founder of Custom New Orleans, said, “We want to use the podcasts to bring the culture of our unique city to a wider audience and create a dynamic program so that people everywhere can see what we’re doing to preserve our history and progress our city.”
Podcasts will be available by visiting http://www.customneworleans.com and clicking on “Podcasts.” The podcast of the finale of the winter series, an interview with Dr. Laura Kelley, author of The Irish in New Orleans, is now available on the Custom New Orleans site.
