In 1942, Executive Order 9066 imprisoned 120,000 Japanese Americans. Balancing Cultures examines the shame, tolerance and acceptance of the Japanese Americans to the hysteria, racism, and economic exploitation perpetrated by the culture and the U.S. government.


The Clarence John Laughlin Award annually grants one $5000 prize and an exhibition in the NOPA gallery to a photographer whose work exhibits sustained artistic excellence and creative vision.
