New subscription art program aims to help make NOLA viable for artists
Photographer and NOPA member Sophie T. Lvoff is among the New Orleans denizens with work available through The Drop, a new art subscription program created with the aim of helping to make the Crescent City a viable place to work and live for artists.
The Drop, a project that grew out of the online arts writing and criticism publication Pelican Bomb, will be commissioning three artists every two months, to create 100 prints, multiples or unique works of art. The initiative, organizers said, is modeled after community-supported agriculture practices.
The first of Lvoff’s works available through The Drop is Lake Peigneur (shown above), an edition of 100 9×12″ salted paper prints. The shot was taken at Lake Peigneur in Iberia Parish, Louisiana, a onetime freshwater lake that was transformed it into saltwater lake after a drilling accident in 1980.
