The Photo Alliance now has an official home at 1111 St. Mary St!
Owen signed the lease last week, and as of Sept 1st we are the
legal tenents of this Lower Garden District ground floor
commercial space, right around the corner fromthe Darkroom
– between Magazine and Sophie Wright Place.
It’s a cozy 800 sq ft, and will give us a home base for meetings,
exhibitions, workshops and other assorted Photo Alliance events.
This is the first designated use for the funds we raised in April, so
we’d like to issue another BIG thank you to all of you who donated
work and otherwise helped with the success of the innaugural
fundraiser. Please come out to celebrate the fruits of your labor at
the September Photo Alliance Meeting, this Thurday evening,
starting at 6:30pm.
In response to some members suggestions and we’re going to change
the structure of our monthly gatherings to include a time for sharing
work with eachother (to put the “photo” back into “photo alliance,” if
you will). So, bring a few prints or a whole portfolio, whatever you’d
like to share, and we’ll spend the first half hour circulating and
looking at eachother’s work. Then at 7pm we’ll do the business thing –
as quickly as possible – so those who wish can run off to catch the
Saints season opener.
