NOLA Fashion Council, sponsor of the Crescent City’s annual NOLA Fashion Week, is hosting a fashion photography workshop with New Orleans photographer Jason Kruppa this Saturday, Oct. 13, in association with the New Orleans Photo Alliance.
Students at the NOPA/NOLA Fashion Council workshop will have the opportunity to work closely with a team as it shoots and edits a fashion editorial package. Kruppa will. meanwhile, talk to students about the importance of storyboarding, and the making of mood boards, as well as the importance of communication more generally in the creation of images with just the right look.
The workshop will also focus on the use of natural lighting and studio lighting, together and separately.
Kruppa specializes in fashion and portraiture, as well as fine art photography, and has extensive experience in photojournalism, wedding and commercial work. His photos have been featured in publications ranging from Town & Country and Travel + Leisure to the local Gambit weekly newspaper’s CUE and Scene magazine inserts. He is a regular contributor the website NolaVie: Life and Culture in New Orleans.
Brides magazine wrote about his work in its July 2012 issue, noting, “By manipulating light and shutter speeds, he gives his images a lovely, painterly quality.”
Kruppa has also served in curator and editor roles. For instance, he worked as a photo editor on a John Lennon biography, “LENNON: The Man, The Myth, The Music,” by National Public Radio music critic Tim Riley. He also curated exhibits for the Louisiana Supreme Court from 2006-2011.
