NOMA discussion on Muybridge book set for Friday, Nov. 16

  • by

The New Orleans Museum of Art will host a Book Club Discussion Group consideration of “River of Shadows: Eadweard Muybridge and the Technological Wild West,” by cultural historian Rebecca Solnit, at noon on Friday, Nov. 16.

Attendees are asked to arrive at 11:30 a.m. if they would like to meet with friends. NOMA will provide water and drinks. Attendees may bring snack lunches to eat, before the discussion begins.

Solnit’s book brings her interest and knowledge of the American West, photography and technology to the story of Muybridge, a British man who became a California bookseller, landscape photographer and pioneer in stop-action photography. He thus paved the way for the motion picture and the Hollywood film industry.

The book is available in the museum shop. For more information, please see the event announcement at the NOMA website. Reservations may be sent to NOMA by e-mail.
