One Varisco exhibit closes, another opens

  • by

The coming week will be a notably busy one for NOPA member Michel Varisco. She will have one exhibit of her work open at the Longue Vue Gardens in New Orleans on Wednesday Sept. 29. On the follow day, another exhibit of her work will close at another historic site just a short drive away, Popp’s Fountain in City Park.

If you have not seen the latter, “Fragile Land Rotunda,” please note that although some of the scrims in the exhibit will be donated to the City of New Orleans by the city Arts Council, the entire exhibit be taken down on Thursday, Sept. 30.

The public is invited, however, to watch as the scrims are taken down, one by one. This conclusion of the exhibit will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is billed as something of a celebration for the historic site, which is now completely restored. The City Park site is located at the corner of Marconi Drive and Zachary Taylor Drive, across from the City Bark, the canine recreation area.

Meanwhile, more of Varisco’s work will be exhibited at Longue Vue House and Gardens in New Orleans. A reception to mark the opening of the exhibit, “Waters from the Shifting Series,” (and the closing of the previous exhibit, artist Mitchell Gaudet’s “Deep Water Horizon Response”) will take place form 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. The photographer should be arriving after 6:30 p.m. Longue Vue Gardens is located at 7 Bamboo Road, near the border of Metairie and New Orleans, as well as near the western end of Metairie Cemetery.
