Photo Alliance News

Good news: Selections from the work of New Orleans photographers will appear in LensWork Extended #71 (July-August, 2007). Big thanks go to Victoria Ryan who initiated this opportunity, then spent countless hours organizing the group submission. Lenswork Extended is their comprehensive dvd supplement to the print publication, and the New Orleans feature will include both black and white and color photographs overlayed with audio clips.

The recent Marketing Workshop with Jean Caslin and Diane Gregory on June 9th was a success, with 36 participants, including 8 new members. Thanks and welcome to Scott Saltzman, Byron Mauthe, Michael Fedor, Kitty Kuhnert, Christopher Porche West, J.R. Portman, John Lawrence, and Cameron Wood. Seven workshop participants took advantage of private portfolio reviews with Jean & Diane on June 10. We will plan more educational/ professional development workshops and lectures in the near future. Many thanks to Josephine Sacabo for the use of her beautiful studio, Christopher Porche West for hosting the after party and the Louise S. McGehee School for lending us the LCD projector.

Portraits is the theme planned for the next Alliance sponsored juried show, scheduled for October. We’ll be issuing more details and a call for entries in the future – just wanted to give you all the heads up in case anyone may be inspired to create some new work for it.

In other news, Maine Photographic Workshop founder, David Lyman, was recently in town to explore the possibility of setting up a series of photographic workshops in New Orleans, possibly in January or February of 2008.

Last but not least, all work and no play makes the Photo Alliance a dull group… This July, in lui of the monthly meeting we will have a Potluck & Portfolio Night at Jenny Bagert’s MidCity studio.

Thursday, July 12
6-9 pm
