Marina Font: CJL 2017 Finalist

MARINA FONT: CJL 2017 Finalist
Miami Beach, Florida

In this series, I depart from a black and white photograph of a female body and make of these neutral photographs a canvas for recreating, through the physical labor of sewing, metaphors of the mind’s systematic representation of the world.

My work explores the complexity of the human psyche in order to investigate the female identity. These visceral works approach the body perceived through three main planes: the biological, the psychological and the social, as well as their juxtapositions. I aim for what lies beyond control and reason, exploring, through the act of drawing with thread onto the photograph, the mysteries of the psyche. This series intends to shed light on the female experience building connections to the forces of the unconscious.
