The Barrett Art Center and Dutchess County Art Association of Poughkeepsie NY are inviting submissions for their 24th annual, national juried competition, “Photowork 2011.” The deadline for digital-only submissions is April 1.

The exhibit dates for Photowork 2011 are May 14 to July 14.

The Photowork show has typically featured work by photographers from 30 to 40 American states. Winners of past competitions have included individuals working with 35mm film, digital cameras, and even pinhole cameras.

According to the organizers, the show typically features a mix of traditional and cutting-edge styles, along with fine art and social commentary. All submissions must be submitted as high-resolution JPEG files (300dpi, 1200×1800 pixels). Submitted work must have been completed within the last four years, and not previously exhibited at the Barrett Art Center.

A non-reundable entry fee of $30, to be mailed to the center separately, is required for the first three images submitted. Each additional image will require a $6 fee. Submissions, as well as questions about the competition, may be e-mailed to Loretta Spence at lspence@barrettartcenter.org.

The juror for this year’s exhibit is Lauren Hinkson, assistant curator for collections at New York’s Guggenheim Museum.
