Smith, Chamlee NOPA gallery talk set for March 31

  • by

Michael A. Smith and Paula Chamlee, whose upcoming black and white film photography workshop, “Vision & Technique,” was recently covered here, will give a talk about their work next Thursday, March 31, at the New Orleans Photo Alliance gallery.

The talk will begin at 7 p.m. at the gallery, which is located at 1111 St. Mary Street in the Crescent City’s Lower Garden District. The two are in New Orleans for their workshop, which is set for April 1-3.

The photographers, who happen to be husband and wife, both work with large format cameras. They have taken their photographs at sites throughout the United States and abroad. The two recently completed a collaborative series of still lifes, The Bonsai of Longwood Gardens.

Smith, it should be noted, has a location connection. He received a commission from the Historic New Orleans Collection in the 1980s to photograph the Crescent City. His work is available for viewing there. The HNOC has in its holdings a complete set of the 405 photographs from that commission, including 8×10, 8×20,and 18×22 sized prints.
